Faces of Magnum:
Jordan Sundby
From her DIY Magnum T-shirts to her bubbly personality and fantastic problem-solving skills, Account Manager Jordan Sundby is an integral part of the dispatch team at Magnum.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
In September, I’ll be celebrating my eigth wedding anniversary, and I have three kids — ages five, three and two.
What is your current job title?
I’m an Account Manager. I dispatch the Southeast region. Before that, I was a Driver Manager.
How long have you worked at Magnum?
I’ve been with Magnum for three years, but I’ve worked in the trucking industry for 12. I started out working in safety, and then I shifted over to the dispatch side of things.
Why did you choose to work at Magnum?
Tony, our OTR Recruiter, was a neighborhood friend. He reached out to me about a year before I actually made the job switch, but it just wasn’t the right time.
About a year later, I reached out to him and asked if the job was still available. He said, “Let me work on it,” and I was here a month later!
Can you tell us a bit about the day-to-day of your job?
I get to work and run through all my emails to figure out all the problems that popped up overnight, and then I try to fix them. Then, I accept loads, decline loads, dispatch drivers and solve all the other problems that come up.
What’s the best part of your job?
I like the socializing! I love being able to talk with people and get to know them. From drivers to my office coworkers — the people I work with definitely make this job great.
What is the hardest part about your job?
The hardest part is definitely trying to make everybody happy. It’s always tough when I have to deliver bad news to a customer or a driver or I can’t give them what they want. Sometimes, there just isn’t a solution that can meet everyone’s needs. That’s hard.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your role?
Don’t take things personally! You can’t take things personally, and you can’t take them home with you. Remember that people are not upset with you, they are upset about what you just told them.
What is something people might not know about you?
I like to use my Cricut! I like to make shirts and decals and things like that. In the last few months, I’ve had a few shirt orders for 40+ shirts for my family. That’s been fun. I’ve even made a few Magnum shirts for people in the office!
I’m also going to be getting a screen-printing system soon. I’m really excited to learn how to use it.
What is your favorite food?
Pasta!
If you could have anyone in the world over for dinner — living or dead, real or fictional — who would you choose and why?
I’m going to say Garth Brooks only because I just watched his documentary on Netflix, and he just seems like a cool guy. I think he’d be fun to have dinner with.
