Casey Nielson

As one who’s worked his way up to where he is now, LTL Terminal Manager Casey Nielson is extremely appreciative of his crew in South Dakota.

Tell me a bit about yourself, Casey!

I am originally from Volga, South Dakota and have lived in Sioux Falls for about 15 years now. In my spare time, I enjoy golfing and watching the Green Bay Packers and South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Go Pack Go, and for my co-workers in North Dakota – Go Big, Go Blue, Go Jacks!

What is your current job title?

I am the Terminal Manager in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for the LTL division, and also oversee our new Sioux City LTL terminal! Day to day, my job consists of overseeing operations, helping dispatch drivers and customer service. But, if need be, I can still get into a truck!

How long have you worked at Magnum?

I’ve been with Magnum for 14 years now! My journey here started out on the dock, loading and unloading trailers. Later, I got my CDL and drove LTL for a while, then moved into a Dispatch role at the terminal. Eventually, I worked my way up to becoming the Sioux Falls Terminal Manager in 2015!

What is your favorite part about working at Magnum?

Personally, my favorite part of the job is working with both customers and our staff. Also, with the growth Magnum has had in the 14 years I’ve been here, I enjoy the challenges that come with that. The growth has also brought on the challenge of how to get the LTL freight moved and delivered in a timely manner.

Lastly, I cannot say enough about the staff I have here in Sioux Falls and Sioux City. They truly make it fun to come to work every day!

What advice would you give to someone just starting out at Magnum?

Know that there will always be challenges, but stick with it! From driver shortages to weather delays, it can get pretty hectic quickly. But, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Also, at Magnum, it feels like you are part of one big family. Everyone is very helpful!

What’s something that might surprise me to know about you?

I have been a member of the South Dakota National Guard for 15 years now, and plan on retiring after 20 years. In 2014, I was deployed to Afghanistan!
