International Roadcheck is May 16-18, and this year the inspectors will be focusing heavily on Auto Braking Systems (ABS) and Cargo Securement.
You might be wondering what the importance of these features are, and we are here to tell you!
An anti-lock braking system is a safety anti-skid braking system that is used on trucks. Anti-lock brake systems (ABS) are crucial for prevents accidents on the road by helping prevent skidding and loss of control. This feature is especially helpful for stopping quicker in wet or slippery conditions. ABS detects when a wheel is about to lock up and reduces the brake pressure to prevent it from happening. This allows drivers to maintain their steering control and avoid accidents.
Just like ABS, cargo securement is essential for the safety of everyone on the road. When cargo is not properly secured on a truck, it can shift or fall off, causing accidents. The most common caused of cargo-related accidents are overloading, insecure tie-downs, and improperly loaded cargo. Accidents due to improper cargo securement can be easily avoided by using proper tie-downs, load locks, and other equipment to secure the cargo tightly in place. Another way to help prevent an issues it for a driver to inspect their cargo regularly during transport to ensure everything is still secure.
Although these features are what the CVSA is focusing on during this three day event, it is important to take the proper safety procautions all year round. By keeping up with your equipment, making sure everything is secure, and doing your own inspections – you can help keep others and yourself safe when on the road.
